ShahrbabakItem no.: 1436950 Size: 78 cm x 134 cm

The small town of Shahr-e-Barak is situated in south-eastern Iran, near the city of Kerman. The town is famous for its rugs, which are made in the surrounding areas by the Afshar tribe. The Afshar are nomads, whose rugs are typical nomad products. Their base is a geometrical pattern, with many attractive details, such as birds, animals, etc. The knotters appreciate clear colours, and one often finds a wide range of colours. Small sizes are the most common, although rugs up to 6m2 can be found. Warp and weft are always cotton, and the pile is wool.
